Drivers With These Cars Get Into the Most Accidents
The National Safety Council reported that in 2020, there were fewer vehicles on the road due to the quarantine orders, and yet, the rate of accidents increased from the previous year by 14%. This increase is likely due to motorists driving more recklessly in the mistaken belief that fewer cars on the road allows for more permissive driving.
Interestingly, however, drivers of ten specific vehicles were found to be the worst offenders with more accidents than drivers of other models. Insurify, an auto insurance comparison site, had its data scientists examine all of the available information to determine the models with the most accidents. The list they compiled is as follows:
-Hyundai Veloster
-Mazda3
-Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
-Honda HR-V
-Toyota Prius C
-Subaru Impreza
-Hyundai Elantra GT
-Subaru WRX
-Subaru Crosstrek
-Infiniti Q50
According to Insurify, “many of the car models that experienced the most vehicle accidents [in 2020] remained consistent. Six of the ten car models that made the list for having the most accidents in 2020 had also made the top ten in 2019.” Ironically, in addition to having the most accidents, the majority of these models also have the reputation of being safe vehicles. Insurify contends that the frequency of accidents despite good crash test ratings may come as a surprise but “perhaps it’s an unexpected positive – although drivers of these vehicles get into accidents more frequently, their cars are equipped to minimize the damage and keep passengers as safe as possible.” So, while some may assume that luxury models and speedy sports cars make up the majority of accidents, the research suggests that more practical and affordable models are more often involved.
No matter what make or model vehicle you drive, do so safely.
