Construction’s “Fatal Four”
Getting the Help You Need After a Construction Accident
According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), there were over 5,000 work-related deaths in 2018. That’s more than 100 deaths per week! Of this number, one in every five worker deaths was in construction.
Construction site accidents happen all too frequently, and many are preventable with the use of proper safety gear and training. The attorneys at Denlea & Carton have been helping injury victims obtain the compensation they deserve for over 35 years. If you have been injured as a result of someone else’s negligence, call our office at (914) 873-1404 or fill out our online contact form.
Leading Causes of Construction Accidents
There are many causes of injury or death in the construction industry, but the top four responsible for the majority of incidents are:
- Falls
- Being struck by an object
- Electrocutions
- Caught-in/crushed between equipment or objects
Referred to as the “Fatal Four,” these accidents were responsible for more than half the construction worker deaths in 2018 and countless other injuries.
Hudson Valley Construction Accidents
Unfortunately, we see our share of these accidents in the Hudson Valley. As reported by lohud.com, a 26 year old worker was killed in New Rochelle after being electrocuted when his cherry picker struck powerlines in February of this year.
In July, as noted by Hudson Valley 360, a flagman working in Hudson was struck and injured when a driver failed to see him. And yet again in August, according to the Mid Hudson News, a young man was killed near the Town of Fishkill when he was run over by a piece of heavy equipment.
Receiving Compensation After Being Injured on the Job
When a worker is injured on the job, he or she can bring a workers’ compensation claim. However, if a third party is found liable, such as in the case above where the flagman was struck by an inattentive driver, a separate civil action may be brought to recover damages.
After an accident on the job, you need to protect your legal rights. The attorneys at Denlea & Carton work aggressively to help clients injured in work-related accidents. We understand how devastating an on the job injury can be and can help you get the compensation you need.
